Introduction to Media Studies: Defining My Media Consumption and Audience Engagement Film Case Study 1

The goal of the case study was for me to examine my media consumption and research how the film industry uses media convergence to promote their audience to consume the media form. In one part of the case study I had to review old vocabulary. I had to define what traditional (old) media and contemporary (new) media. I also had to define what convergence was and define the various forms it comes in. If done right, I score sixteen marks for this section. The picture is below.

One of the main portions of the assignment was when I had to give an example of a popular film and provide general information about it. I talked about the live-action film, Mortal Kombat, which was a reboot of the original movies. This movie came out in 2021. I talked about who was involved, how much money was made, and even how much money was being used. Towards the end I had to describe why the film was successful.

After completing the assignment, I got the chance to learn more about my favorite films than I previously knew. I never knew how much money the companies used to produce a good film. It just makes me think about how much money was used for more popular films, like John Wick or Halloween. This was a very interesting assignment for me overall!

Research: Lighting

Who doesn't like a film with a lot of lighting? When the light is shined on a specific character of object your attention is attracted to it. That isn't a bad thing. In fact, that means that the person in charge of directing the film's lighting is doing his job well. The goal of using the mise en scene element known as, lighting is to emphasize the importance the object of character. Without lighting, it would be difficult to figure out why and object as simple as a strand of hair is so important.   Proper lighting can also set the main character atmosphere in a film. When the lighting reflects of a character's face in the right angle, it gives them that feeling of relevancy within the film. It shows the character's dominance within the film. At the same time, it can demonstrate how lonely the character is too as well. It can show how lonesome the character is.

Camera Angles Slide PowerPoint Presentation

The last time that I did a post on camera angles, it was on a storyboard. Me and my team had to draw pictures of different camera angles. What makes this post different is that this time we had to take pictures and put them on a slide presentation. Me and my team had fun taking pictures and utilizing them in the most creative way possible. Moreover, in the process, we learned more about camera angles and their significance to film and photography, in general.   The slide above was about a low-level shot. We talked about the meaning and significance of a low-level shot. By the way, the person we used in the picture tried his hardest to not break character. The shot had to be retaken at least three to four times. Moreover, we used a story about a student bumping into a taller student as a way of making the shot make sense.   Moreover, in the slide above, we did an eye-level shot. In this slide, we talked about the meaning and significance of an eye-level shot. Moreo...
