What is Setting and It's Elements?
The setting of a scene, or frame describes the surroundings and atmosphere that is within it. Place and location are elements of setting that can easily show the audience where the film is taking place. For example, if the location was New York City you would see a code such as, the Statue of Liberty, which is a monument commonly associated with New York. The film's genre is another element of setting that can dictate the atmosphere. If a film was supposed to be an action movie, then the lighting would be predominantly dark; as well as, having a gritty mood.
Different time periods can play a crucial role in determining the setting of a film. If a film includes talking robots and flying boards. However, if a film included war helmets, metal armor, bloody swords, and gore then the film takes place during a medieval time period. Setting is one of the most recognizable forms of mise en scene. This is mainly because it is easy to analyze and identify.
