Preliminary Exercise 3 B: Introduction to Genre Conventions Bubble Organizer

In film, genre is when a movie is categorized into a certain group because of the elements it possessed. For example, a horror movie can't be categorized with a comedy because their elements are contradictory to one another. There are three film genres that I am mainly interested in. Those genres are comedy, science fiction, and horror. Comedy is a genre that is supposed to appeal to an audience that wants a good laugh. The "Scary Movie" franchise is a perfect example of a what defines a comedic film, due to its comedic references to the movies they used. Science fiction is a genre that appeals to an audience that wants technological, scientific, and even extraterrestrial involvement in films. The movie "The Faculty" was a movie that revolved around the idea of an alien race taking over the planet. Finally, horror is a popular genre that attracts people who are interested in gore and well...murder. The "Friday the 13th" franchise were some of the films that defined the horror genre because of it's excessive gore and violence.

In the assignment, we were supposed pick a specific a movie genre and make a poster talking about it.  Me and my teammates worked together to produce a poster that gave off horror vibes; as well as inform people as much as possible about horror and what it is composed of.  One of the lessons I learned was how important costume design is to the horror element. In horror, the costume needs to be intimidating in order to give the audience a scare. Another lesson I learned while doing the assignment was that lighting was the most essential factor in providing a dark atmosphere. When the lighting is dark, it typically sends chills and shivers down the spine of people watching, if done correctly.

Research: Lighting

Who doesn't like a film with a lot of lighting? When the light is shined on a specific character of object your attention is attracted to it. That isn't a bad thing. In fact, that means that the person in charge of directing the film's lighting is doing his job well. The goal of using the mise en scene element known as, lighting is to emphasize the importance the object of character. Without lighting, it would be difficult to figure out why and object as simple as a strand of hair is so important.   Proper lighting can also set the main character atmosphere in a film. When the lighting reflects of a character's face in the right angle, it gives them that feeling of relevancy within the film. It shows the character's dominance within the film. At the same time, it can demonstrate how lonely the character is too as well. It can show how lonesome the character is.

Camera Angles Slide PowerPoint Presentation

The last time that I did a post on camera angles, it was on a storyboard. Me and my team had to draw pictures of different camera angles. What makes this post different is that this time we had to take pictures and put them on a slide presentation. Me and my team had fun taking pictures and utilizing them in the most creative way possible. Moreover, in the process, we learned more about camera angles and their significance to film and photography, in general.   The slide above was about a low-level shot. We talked about the meaning and significance of a low-level shot. By the way, the person we used in the picture tried his hardest to not break character. The shot had to be retaken at least three to four times. Moreover, we used a story about a student bumping into a taller student as a way of making the shot make sense.   Moreover, in the slide above, we did an eye-level shot. In this slide, we talked about the meaning and significance of an eye-level shot. Moreo...
