Welcome to My AICE Media Studies Blog!

Hello, this is Tyrone Daniel from Piper High School. I am currently enrolled in a Media Studies course that I am interested in learning in. During my time starting, I am learning that media studies is an important concept to learn about. Media is everywhere, whether it is on our phones, gaming consoles, newspapers, or magazines. We encounter it every day and it is important that we learn more about it. My favorite media product is a videogame named Killer Instinct, which is accessible for consoles and laptops. I play and enjoy this product because of the dynamic sound and colorful graphics. This can be attention-grabbing for teens because the visual is bright, colorful, and has a variety of characters that fit the demographic that people see today. For example, there are a variety of female characters and a few Native American characters in the game. Furthermore, I find a few things interesting about Media Studies. One interesting thing I found out about Media Studies was how frequently media is being used. Another interesting thing I found was how much variety each category of media had. Another thing I found interesting about Media Studies was how much messages you can uncover by analyzing costumes, lighting, pyro, and sound effects.

Even though the image above is my favorite media product, the media product I will documenting a blog on is an opening film. I would like to create an action film. However, if I decide to change the film, I will notify you. The intended audience for the opening film was teenagers because I feel they will gravitate to this type of film more than any other age group. The purpose of the film is to attract as many people as they can with action that looks at least closely choreographed to a usual action film. My intention for the film is for it to be filled with grit, so it can appeal to the teens. However, in order for me to accomplish this, I need to learn how to choreograph a fight the correct way, so the action can look as good as possible. With all factors considered, I expect the film to be finished no later than Christmas Day.

My first strategy I will need to create my movie will be learning how to make the setting as gritty as possible, this involves changing lighting and sound effects. Another strategy I will need to create my movie is time management. This is important because I am going to have a certain amount of time to complete the opening film before it is due. My third strategy for creating my movie will be learning how to create scripts that fit the character correctly. In other words, I do not want to make a heartless, silent, and intimidating villain someone who wears pink clothing and seems as comedic as a clown, it just doesn't fit. My fourth and final strategy will be to make sure that my production team and cast have great chemistry with each other so the film can come out naturally and not uncomfortable.  I think using these skills will allow me to become successful in completing Component 1 with a high score because these skills should allow the opening to look as similar to an action film as possible.

Research: Lighting

Who doesn't like a film with a lot of lighting? When the light is shined on a specific character of object your attention is attracted to it. That isn't a bad thing. In fact, that means that the person in charge of directing the film's lighting is doing his job well. The goal of using the mise en scene element known as, lighting is to emphasize the importance the object of character. Without lighting, it would be difficult to figure out why and object as simple as a strand of hair is so important.   Proper lighting can also set the main character atmosphere in a film. When the lighting reflects of a character's face in the right angle, it gives them that feeling of relevancy within the film. It shows the character's dominance within the film. At the same time, it can demonstrate how lonely the character is too as well. It can show how lonesome the character is.

Camera Angles Slide PowerPoint Presentation

The last time that I did a post on camera angles, it was on a storyboard. Me and my team had to draw pictures of different camera angles. What makes this post different is that this time we had to take pictures and put them on a slide presentation. Me and my team had fun taking pictures and utilizing them in the most creative way possible. Moreover, in the process, we learned more about camera angles and their significance to film and photography, in general.   The slide above was about a low-level shot. We talked about the meaning and significance of a low-level shot. By the way, the person we used in the picture tried his hardest to not break character. The shot had to be retaken at least three to four times. Moreover, we used a story about a student bumping into a taller student as a way of making the shot make sense.   Moreover, in the slide above, we did an eye-level shot. In this slide, we talked about the meaning and significance of an eye-level shot. Moreo...
