Preliminary Exercise 5: Introduction to Color in Film

In this assignment, we were supposed to use our knowledge of mise en scene and color to help us identify the meaning each color has. In film, color is a element of mise en scene that can dictate the tone of the film. When there is a variety of colors in a film, it usually indicates that the tone of the movie is joyous and playful. When there are monotone-like colors such as black and white, then there tone becomes more gloomy, or even depressing. The people who are responsible for creating the tone and atmosphere in the film are include colorists and production designers, whose goal is to provide the necessary elements needed for the film. If the designers do their job affectively, then they will be able to create a tone that seems appealing to the audience, as well as create a story that gives off the proper emotion required for the tone.

In the preliminary exercise above, the goal was for me and my team to elaborate on what color each color means Me and Brandon used Google Docs so we could effectively work and complete slides. While doing the assignment we realized how helpful Google Docs was in helping us complete the assignment. As seen above, one of the colors we analyzed was orange. One thing we realized about each color was that they all had numerous meanings and some of them resonated with the frame we selected for each. Overall, I learned that colors can be the most beautiful, emotionless, and complex code, simultaneously.

Research: Lighting

Who doesn't like a film with a lot of lighting? When the light is shined on a specific character of object your attention is attracted to it. That isn't a bad thing. In fact, that means that the person in charge of directing the film's lighting is doing his job well. The goal of using the mise en scene element known as, lighting is to emphasize the importance the object of character. Without lighting, it would be difficult to figure out why and object as simple as a strand of hair is so important.   Proper lighting can also set the main character atmosphere in a film. When the lighting reflects of a character's face in the right angle, it gives them that feeling of relevancy within the film. It shows the character's dominance within the film. At the same time, it can demonstrate how lonely the character is too as well. It can show how lonesome the character is.

Camera Angles Slide PowerPoint Presentation

The last time that I did a post on camera angles, it was on a storyboard. Me and my team had to draw pictures of different camera angles. What makes this post different is that this time we had to take pictures and put them on a slide presentation. Me and my team had fun taking pictures and utilizing them in the most creative way possible. Moreover, in the process, we learned more about camera angles and their significance to film and photography, in general.   The slide above was about a low-level shot. We talked about the meaning and significance of a low-level shot. By the way, the person we used in the picture tried his hardest to not break character. The shot had to be retaken at least three to four times. Moreover, we used a story about a student bumping into a taller student as a way of making the shot make sense.   Moreover, in the slide above, we did an eye-level shot. In this slide, we talked about the meaning and significance of an eye-level shot. Moreo...
