Research: Sound

What is Sound?

Sound is simply everything you hear when you are watching a film. Sound can be as simple as a pencil dropping, or as complex as a portal opening. Moreover, sound allows a movie to feel pure and it can depict a character's thoughts and emotions towards the film's audience. The audience get's to look at the character and can tell whether or not the character is infuriated, depressed, intimidated, or joyous by just hearing their voice, or the audible music that could be played in the background.

Different Sounds in Film

Different film genres have different sounds they are associated with. Horror films are usually associated with dark and gloomy music that allows the audience to be scared. There may be utilization of violins while the character is approaching their destination.

There are also diegetic sounds in film. These sounds are sound that both the character and audience can hear. The sound can typically be background noises in an environment. If the characters are near a construction site, then they are going to hear bricks falling, beeping, and even one of the construction workers giving directions.

There are also internal diegetic sounds in film. These sounds are the thoughts that are in a character's mind that the character and the audience can hear. These are more like a character's internal thoughts. We can see the character's psychological standpoint in whatever situation they are in.

There are also voice-overs in film as well. These sounds are sounds that the audience can hear but the characters can't hear. Voiceovers are used to give context about a certain situation at times. There would be a female or male commentating about a certain character or scenario.

Research: Lighting

Who doesn't like a film with a lot of lighting? When the light is shined on a specific character of object your attention is attracted to it. That isn't a bad thing. In fact, that means that the person in charge of directing the film's lighting is doing his job well. The goal of using the mise en scene element known as, lighting is to emphasize the importance the object of character. Without lighting, it would be difficult to figure out why and object as simple as a strand of hair is so important.   Proper lighting can also set the main character atmosphere in a film. When the lighting reflects of a character's face in the right angle, it gives them that feeling of relevancy within the film. It shows the character's dominance within the film. At the same time, it can demonstrate how lonely the character is too as well. It can show how lonesome the character is.

Camera Angles Slide PowerPoint Presentation

The last time that I did a post on camera angles, it was on a storyboard. Me and my team had to draw pictures of different camera angles. What makes this post different is that this time we had to take pictures and put them on a slide presentation. Me and my team had fun taking pictures and utilizing them in the most creative way possible. Moreover, in the process, we learned more about camera angles and their significance to film and photography, in general.   The slide above was about a low-level shot. We talked about the meaning and significance of a low-level shot. By the way, the person we used in the picture tried his hardest to not break character. The shot had to be retaken at least three to four times. Moreover, we used a story about a student bumping into a taller student as a way of making the shot make sense.   Moreover, in the slide above, we did an eye-level shot. In this slide, we talked about the meaning and significance of an eye-level shot. Moreo...
